Non-reflective tint, as the name suggests, does not reflect light. Unlike reflective or mirrored tints, non-reflective tints absorb more sunlight rather than reflecting it away. This type of tint is often preferred for its aesthetic appeal and its ability to reduce glare without creating reflections that might distract other drivers.
The AS-1 line is a marking found on most vehicle windshields. It’s a reference line determined by the manufacturer, indicating the portion of the windshield where non-reflective tint can be applied legally. The AS-1 line is typically located on the top portion of the windshield, down a few inches from the top edge.
The regulation that non-reflective tint can only be applied above the AS-1 line is primarily for safety reasons. The area below the AS-1 line is the driver’s critical viewing area. Applying tint in this area, especially reflective tint, could potentially reduce visibility and distract the driver, leading to safety concerns.
